Create your first project

Create a PostgreSQL project, select a branch and initialize a compute before connecting.

Sign in with an account allowed to create projects. Your active plan and the service’s read-only mode may restrict resource creation. A new account does not automatically receive a paid plan.

1. Create a project

  1. Open the Projects list.
  2. Select Create project and enter a recognizable name.
  3. Select an available PostgreSQL version from 14–17 and an offered region.
  4. Submit the request, wait for its result, and open the new project.

A new project has a main branch. If a request fails or its outcome is unclear, reload the list before submitting again to avoid duplicates.

2. Initialize a compute

  1. Open the project and select the branch you need.
  2. Create a compute for that branch using a size allowed by your plan.
  3. Wait for initialization to finish. creating means the compute is not ready for connections.

New source allows at most one compute per branch. Running computes on several branches of one project requires a deployment that supports it. If there is a conflict, check existing computes first; see rollout limitations.

3. Verify the result

Open Connect and select the correct branch, compute, database and role. Follow the connection guide, then run a read-only query:

SELECT current_database(), current_user, version();

The result should identify the database and role you selected. This verifies only the current connection; it does not establish backup or restore readiness.

If you cannot continue

  • A permission or plan limit blocks you: review the account’s plan and permissions in the console.
  • A compute is still initializing: wait and refresh its status. A created project does not mean a running compute.
  • The connection dropped during submission: check the resource list before retrying.
